Making Space for the Light

Creating Space

Welcome November! The month greeted us with gusts of wind, a drop in temperature and immediately into daylight savings as we transitioned deeper into the Vata season. With less heat, less light, the darkness easily can make one feel less motivated which can lead to less movement. Yes, you read that correctly, even less movement! It’s essential to carve out some time to move in order to make space for light and to keep the inner flame ignited.

Regardless whether you choose to practice with us online or by coming into the studio, where can you make some space to step onto the mat? More importantly, what happens in that space?

Moving into a Mindful Space

Dedicated to only you, this space is sacred. Moving within your/this space is nourishing. It fuels the light of your spirit in efforts to clear what no longer serves or is long overdue to replace. Moreover, this space does not have to be limited to the mat.

Take a moment to read “A Year at the Yoga Farm: My Yoga Journey” by Beth Bentley, our long time massage therapist and recent YTT graduate.

Beth shares her journey through a warm and thoughtful demonstration how yoga is not only everywhere but exists inside you, with the power to access it wherever you are.

Harvesting Gratitude

This is an excellent time to work with gratitude. Make space to join one of bi-weekly virtual meditation classes, a perfect place to increase mindfulness and promote awareness. Every Monday and Wednesday,
8:30-9:00am on Zoom.

To start cultivating gratitude, it’s important to bring your attention inward to the space within. Begin with filling this area with various expressions of self love and praise, recognizing all that you’ve achieved and being respectful to your authentic self.

Next, advance your sentiments by voicing thanks to the people you are grateful for. The individuals who offer support, unconditional love, belly laughs, and even something as simple as making your coffee each morning.

Last but not least, genuinely acknowledge and appreciate the little things that go unnoticed, like basic necessities, common comforts, certain opportunities, and privileges which we get to experience daily.

Use this month to step into your space and start filing it with gratitude. These mindful practices provide you with the opportunity to become more receptive. Open to love, both giving and receiving, while having appreciation for the simple blessings all around us.

Be Well.
