In an effort to help you get to know the Yoga in the Heights staff, we’ll be posting Q&As every month with one of the staff members. This month I’d like to introduce you to Sruti Lankireddy, one of our front desk staff. Sruti has been practicing yoga at YITH since almost the beginning of the year and recently started working behind the front desk.

Where are you from?
I am from Fremont, California.
When did you start practicing yoga and why?
I started practicing yoga in February. Before that, I had tried a couple of classes in college. I always found it relaxing but the main reason I decided to try YITH was to go somewhere close to home, where I could relax and get some movement. Initially, one of the reasons I enjoyed going in was that the color of the walls and feel of the room almost made me forget that it was winter. After a few classes I was hooked. The teachers are amazing and I found yoga helping me in all aspects of my life. I also really like the main studio room.
What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
My favorite pose is restorative bridge. I love how as soon as I enter the pose, I can feel tension leaving my body. It’s very soothing on my lower back issues.
Five items you would want with you if you were stranded on a desert island.
Water purifier bottle, Warm fuzzy blanket, Yoga blocks, and a kindle…with a couple of extra battery packs 😉
What’s your favorite restaurant in JC?
I haven’t been to that many places in JC yet, but I got brunch at GPs last weekend and really liked it. I go to school in Hoboken so I eat there more often and my favorite restaurants are Mamoun’s and Napoli’s.
What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
I’m in the data analytics field and I’d love to use predictive analytics to further predictive diagnostics, to provide the information needed for patients to ward off diseases before they become a problem rather than just letting the diseases come and treating them. Right now I’m still building my technical skills and knowledge base wherever I can, but my goal is to make a contribution in preventative healthcare one day.
