about YOGA
Starting a yoga practice at Beloved World Yoga is simple.
Our teachers are experienced in supporting new yoga students. Our Fundamentals 1 and 2 classes are specifically for beginners or those wishing the refresh on the basics of alignment, breath, and movement.
Yoga is for all shapes, sizes, and ages. You don’t need to be flexible, strong, lean, or young. Come and try a class just the way you are. The only thing you need to do is to show up.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Some people are naturally flexible; others must work to attain flexibility. Flexibility is not a prerequisite to starting a practice. It’s a benefit of the practice. A regular yoga practice will gradually increase flexibility. All the other benefits of yoga can be experienced regardless of whether or not you can touch your toes.
Yoga classes are held in one of our two studios and led by certified yoga instructors. Classes can vary by strength, balance, style and level, so read the class description before you arrive.
We suggest you attend Fundamentals classes first, which will get you acquainted with common poses, flow, connecting breath with movement, and the vibe of our studio.
As with anything new, be patient with yourself and remember that you don’t have to do everything right away. Practicing yoga is a lifelong endeavor. The benefits accumulate over time and learning the basics is central to building a strong practice.
- Avoid eating a heavy meal at least 2 hours before class.
- Wear comfortable clothing made for exercise. Avoid buttons, zippers, and other things that may be uncomfortable if you sit or lie on top of them.
- Bring a yoga mat and water (or rent/buy either from us when you arrive).
- Arrive 15 minutes early for your first class to make your signing in experience non-stressful.
- Have an open mind!
Fundamentals classes are a perfect starting point for beginners. Instructors go through the foundational yoga poses at a slower pace. Classes designated as “all” or “mixed” levels, or level 2 or higher will require a familiarity of the basic poses, in addition to a certain degree of stamina and strength.
Be Yin and Be Restored are open level classes appropriate for beginners.
There are variations to each yoga pose that allow students to lessen – or increase – the difficulty. Talk to your instructor or ask for a variation. Don’t be shy!
It depends on your injury. If you are in any doubt, please consult your doctor before starting a yoga practice and take accountability for looking after yourself. Generally, a yoga practice is very adaptable and you can modify poses to accommodate most injuries. Talk to the teacher before the class so that they are aware of your condition.
That’s ok. As long as your Groupon or gift certificate has not expired, we will honor it at Beloved World Yoga.
